2015 Teacher Grant Recipients
Continuing an 20-year tradition of supporting the efforts of teachers in the classroom, the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce - through its Business & Education Coalition - handed out $12,319.79 for 27 projects proposed by K-12 educators throughout Wilson County. Some of the proposals were submitted by individual teachers, while others involved two or more educators. Grants ranged from less than $200 to the maximum of $599 (up from the 2014 maximum of $500) awarded by the Teacher Grant Extra Mile Educator Program. Ken Howell, who has served as chairman of the Business & Education Coalition since its inception in 1996, presided over the grant presentations, which were made during a recognition breakfast on Wednesday, November 4 at the Lebanon Golf & Country Club.
Special thank you to Jackie Gaither and Kevin Gaines, the G-Team, who have sponsored the breakfast annually. The 2015 awards breakfast will be the G-Team's last year as sponsors. Howell is also resigning from his chairman position, effective in 2016.
In the two decades the Teacher Grant program has been in existence, 458 grants have been presented totaling over $187,000.
Corporate sponsors and Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce events are the source of funding for Teacher Grants. The signature fundraising event is the Taste of Wilson County.
